How to Root and Install CWM Recovery on Nexus 7 Running On Official Android 4.2.2

The latest and Official firmware update for Nexus devices, JDQ39 firmware Android 4.2.2 was released just a few days ago, and now you can also root your Nexus device on this firmware as well. If you want to install the appilication which require root access of your system, you need to root your device. We have a simple tutorial which will help you to not only root your device, but also install clockworkMod Recovery on your nexus device.

I. Before You Begin:
1. The following procedure works for Nexus 7.
2. Make sure your device have at least 80% battery power.
3. You must have ClockworkMod Recovery installed on your device.
4. Make sure USB Debugging is enabled.

II. Downloading Required Files:

  1. Fastboot
  2. ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.2.3
  3. Superuser
III. How to Root and Install CWM Recovery on Nexus 7 Running On Android 4.2.2
  1. Download Fastboot file and extract it to android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory on your computer. "Note- This folder will be available only if you have installed Android SDK. If this folder is not available then you need to create this directory."
  2. Now download ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.2.3 file and copy it to android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory on your computer as well.
  3. Now download Superuser and copy it in the root folder of your SD card on your phone. Make sure you copy this file in the root folder on your SD card.
  4. Now switch off your phone and move into Fastboot Mode.
  5. Boot your phone into Fastboot mode by pressing and holding Volume Up+Power buttons together until Fastboot Menu screens turns up.
  6. Now go into the android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory on your computer and Open Command prompt.To Open Command Prompt, press and hold Right-Shift button and right click in the empty space on the screen and select Open Command Prompt here.
  7. Now in the command prompt, type the following command and press enter:“fastboot flash recovery CWM-grouper-recovery.img”
  8. Once this is done, choose RECOVERY from the Fastboot Menu and enter into Recovery Mode.
  9. Now in the Recovery mode, select “Flash zip from SD card” and then select “Choose zip from sdcard” .
  10. Note- In the Recovery Mode, use Volume keys to navigate and Power button to select.
  11. Now navigate to the “UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.04.zip” file that you copied to your SD card in step 3.
  12. The installation will start and will take some time to complete.

  1. Now in the recovery mode, select “+++Go back+++” and then reboot your device by selecting “Reboot system now“.
